To remove the coke residues from the previous baking cycle along the flue walls, a Flue Wall Cleaning Machine will be provided.
The FWCM is handled, and lifted up and down in a pit by the anode grab of the existing FTA.
The electric motor driven, steel wire brushes are pushed against the flue walls via pneumatic cylinders.
Electric power and pneumatic air is taken from the FTA through quick connections.
The same connections are used for alarms and cabin control.
If a flue wall has bowed beyond this tolerance, it is advised to use a Flue Wall Straightening Machine prior to cleaning.
The FWCM will have an interlock system which will prevent it from running when operators are attaching the device to the FTA.
The actual cleaning operation will be controlled by the operator in the cabin.
The FWCM will be capable of operating in pits with a maximum individual flue wall bowing as given below.
